The district has so many wonderful events going on throughout the summer and it can be a bit hard to keep up with all of them. With one more month to go before summer ends, everyone is taking advantage of the good weather by throwing some amazing summer events you can’t possibly miss!

We checked out some of the hottest restaurants along with music and art shows that are coming up. Even if you can’t make some of these events this week, many of them will be running throughout the whole summer!

Art & Music Events

Fancy Animal Carnival

Whimsical and larger than life sculptures have arrived in Downtown DC for all to see! Enjoy the Fancy Animal Carnival installation, by renowned Taiwanese contemporary artist Hung Yi.

Gallery Talk: Revival

If you’re looking for some artistic and intellectual nourishment for your brain, stop by the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) on Wednesdays. Indulge in short gallery talks and explore highlights from special exhibitions.

This week, NMWA Director of Education and Digital Engagement Deborah Gaston, will discuss several works in the special exhibition Revival. If interested in this empowering women’s event, stop by on August 2, 2017 between 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM.

Spur of the Moment

Blues Alley Jazz presents: Spur of the Moment—A list of artists that have worked with immensely talented units over the past two decades. Bucked at the odds while transcending the usual ups and downs and inspiring fans across the world with a vibe that continues to define the word, band. George Duke to Al Jarreau, Patti Austin, Ledisi, Raheem Devaughn, and Lalah Hathaway are often regarded as regional legends of the DMV.


Hottest Restaurant Events

The Happiest of Hours at the Hard Rock Café

Kick back and lose the tie at the Hard Rock Café  for Beer Flights, $3, $4 and $5 drinks and half priced appetizers, Monday through Friday! Recurring every week day from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Conveniently located next to Fords Theater, the Hard Rock Cafe is both a perfect stop on your sight-seeing adventure and a unique, late night hang out for DC locals

Support A Cause Wednesday at the Embassy Row Hotel

This event is designed as a grassroots effort to help locals fundraise for their favorite cause. Guests must reserve a Rooftop or Station Kitchen & Cocktails fundraising event. The Embassy Row Hotel will donate a certain amount to the featured non-profit.

Donation Details

  • $1 donated from all draft beer
  • $1 donated from all wine
  • $1 donated from all regular cocktails
  • $1 donated from bar bites
  • $2 donated from the specialty drink

This event will be hosted every Wednesday, from August 2, 2017 – September 27, 2017 between 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM.

The Watergate Hotel

Fly in and float out of one of the district’s new and hottest lunch spots, KINGBIRD, at the Watergate Hotel. The new “Break in, Break out” Express Lunch will sweep you off your feet and get you back to work on time. Be sure to make a reservation on their website, between 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM, every week day.

Watergate Whisky Wednesday’s are hosted from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM with some of the rarest-of-them-all whiskies. Hurry because their second to last event is this Wednesday, August 2—featuring Highland Park 15. Be sure to bring your receipt to Kingbird  following the event for a complimentary appetizer while dining.

Weekly Summer Events at CityCenterDC

  • CityCenterDC Celebrates Summer has once again brought color back to its pedestrian walkway, Palmer Alley. This summer enjoy hundreds of colorful beach balls suspended above Palmer Alley by sharing your photos of the installation on Instagram. Don’t forget to use hashtag #CCDCSummer for a chance to win a $350 CityCenterDC gift card.
