THE COP21 DEAL: A BRIEF LOOK AT THE PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT

You may have noticed that The Paris Climate Agreement is getting a lot of press lately. Here’s a brief look at what this deal is and why it is such an important topic:

The Paris Climate Agreement was adopted in 2015 at the Paris climate conference, AKA COP21 (check out this amazing artwork linking virtual trees, tree projection, human heartbeats and tree planting initiatives that was exhibited during the conference). This deal was considered legally binging in some aspects and 195 countries, including the United States, adopted it. The main goal is, of course, to fight and slow climate change and its negative effects on the earth, primarily by keeping the rise in global temperature to below 2 degrees Celsius. Keeping the increase below 1.5 degrees Celsius is another initial stated goal, as is hitting the peak of global emissions ASAP, so that the decline can begin. Many organizations have a physical and/or conceptual hub or center that they build themselves up around. For LA 501 (c)3 non-profit organization Art Division, this hub, foundation, and permanent base is their art library. The library currently contains between 8,000 to 10,000 books and resources and is still growing—they frequently get calls from people who have art book collections that need to find a new home. USE HOUSEPLANTS TO CLEAN YOUR BUILDING’S AIR

It’s common to spend a lot more time indoors in the winter. Given that many Americans, on average, spend about 90 percent of their life indoors anyway, this can amount to a lot of indoor air inhalation. One potential problem with this situation is exposure to indoor air pollution. Just as there are many outdoor pollutants such as fossil fuels, there are many indoor pollutants as well. Sometimes, components of the pollution that is caused by gas exhaustion can travel inside and become indoor air pollutants. These include benzene and xylene and you’re more likely to have these in your home if you have an attached garage. USE HOUSEPLANTS TO CLEAN YOUR BUILDING’S AIR
