FINDING HOPPINESS: DC’S BEST BREWERIES

There is never a bad time of the year for beer sipping. That’s what I love most about beer –– it’s versatile. Looking to warm up after a chilly day running around the streets of DC? Duck into a local joint and get yourself a porter, sure to warm you from the inside out. Sweating bullets after showing out-of-town guests around town in the heat of the summer? Slide into one of the area’s beer slingin’ bars and get a refreshing IPA. But while I love beer year-round, I must admit, we’re coming up on prime beer drinking season: Spring. When the weather finally gives way, lets us all out of homes, and hovers nicely around 75 degrees if only for a moment so we can sip a brewski on a patio or in the middle of a beer garden. It’s a magical time for those who can appreciate a great pour. Luckily for the beer affectionados that call the District home, there are plenty of local brews to be had in these parts. NEW DC PLACES TO WINE & DINE (OR BEER & GRUB)

The holiday season is upon us, it’s true. And while the frenzy of sugary sweets, overzealous plates of food, gift giving, and fa-la-la-la-ing is no doubt wonderful, Winter can still rear its nasty head and make the city feel like a drab place to be. Fear not, though! There are plenty of new cozy atmospheres popping up around the city that have the potential to make complete and utter darkness at 6pm and sweater weather turned I-don’t-want-to-leave-the-house weather not so bad, after all. New places to eat can put the pep back in your step and the zest back in your life, winter cloud coverage be damned. NEW DC PLACES TO WINE & DINE (OR BEER & GRUB)

DC STARTUP SPOTLIGHT: MISFIT JUICERY

As has been made clear in my previous deep dives into DC’s startup scene, this city’s entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well. While some towns fall into the trap of chains upon chains and big-boxed retailers, DC continues to foster the people who are forging their own way, chasing down visions, and bringing something new and exciting to the table. When I go searching for a startup to feature here, I am always restraining from biting my nails, or looking coyly at the Google search returns, half-afraid that finally, this search will be the one that leads to no end, I’ve run out of interesting startups with ties to this city. Time and time again though, a company finds its way onto my screen and easily proves me wrong. This time, it was Misfit Juicery. DC STARTUP SPOTLIGHT: MISFIT JUICERY

Food. It’s what gets me out of bed in the morning. But living in a city with such dynamite food options can be heavy hitting on the bank account. And while DC might be the home of the heinously overpriced cupcake and Michelin star restaurants that could do you in, there are still, believe it or not, deals to be had in the District. Here are some places in the city where you can please your taste buds without emptying your savings account. DC ON THE CHEAP: (GOOD) MEALS FOR UNDER $10

BIBIBOP IS COMIN’ AT YOU FACE FIRST!

BRACE YOURSELF – BIBIBOP is taking over!

So Chipotle recently shut down its Southeast Asian restaurant chain, ShopHouse and a new kid on the block is moving in and taking over where Chipotle left off. After Chipotle yanked it’s chains for failing to generate sufficient revenue, BIBIBOP swooped in and bought up the leases to all of the fifteen locations nationwide. We’re not sure if you’ve heard of them – but they’re kind of a big deal. BIBIBOP IS COMIN’ AT YOU FACE FIRST!
