In a sign that spring is truly close at hand, Drink Company announced this week the return of its popular Cherry Blossom Pop-Up Bar. The immersive experience opens on March 1 at 1841 7th St. NW and will feature lots of floral and Japanese-inspired design and drinks.

Even if you weren’t able to attend the inaugural Cherry Blossom Pop-Up last year, you are likely familiar with Drink Company’s work. They are the team behind a rotation of hit concepts like the Miracle On 7th Street Christmas bar, the Game of Thrones PUB, and the spooky Halloween-themed PUB Dread. This year, they’ve partnered with the National Cherry Blossom Festival in order to host an even bigger bash.

“This is our second annual love letter to D.C. and the, quite literally, beautiful relationship we have to Japan, enshrined in our Cherry Blossom trees,” says Drink Company President Derek Brown.

Last year’s bar got rave reviews for its Mario room and Nintendo decor. That’s being swapped out for another icon of Japanese pop culture: Godzilla.

“While there will be pagodas and blossoms, we know that most Americans think about the famous monster flick when they think Japan and we’ve given it the PUB treatment: giant monster replicas, flashing warnings, Tokyo streets and drinks to match,” Brown says.

Other decor elements of the multi-room bar include paper cranes, flowers, and monarch butterflies.

Head Bartender Paul Taylor has worked up a drink menu featuring Japanese spirits and ingredients from whisky to sake. They include the Love-Crazed Monster Crushes World, made with Suntory Toki Japanese whisky, Bergamot tea, and rojo vermouth. The Chu-Hi uses Manzanilla sherry, rice orgeat, lemon, sparkling water, and citrus Rice Krispies Treats. Cocktails will be priced at $13 a piece, and a selection of beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
