As you may or may not have heard, Urban Scrawl is shutting down. I won’t bore you with the details (we’re rebranding as a Russian troll farm to get some of that sweet, sweet Super PAC money for the midterms), but in this moment I’m keeping in mind the famous saying by Dr. Seuss: “Don’t be sad that it’s over, be glad that you averaged 30K unique pageviews per month!” (Looking to hire a writer? Call me.) (But not until I’ve exhausted all my unemployment checks.) … OUR MOST POPULAR POSTS OF ALL TIME!
If you haven’t skipped out on a stark hotel room and opted for the cozy, home-team advantage of an Airbnb, you might want to reconsider your on-the-road rituals. After all, Airbnb has gone above and beyond to solidify their network of eager hosts as a great way for anyone to see cities near and far as a local –– and in the comfort of a home, rather than beneath scratchy hotel sheets and fluorescent lighting. We’re deep in the midst of winter’s wrath, sick with cabin fever (and maybe something else if you didn’t get this year’s flu shot), and really ready for spring to get sprung already so we can complain about the fact that it’s hot while sitting in the sunshine! (There’s nothing better). … CABIN ESCAPES WITHIN DC’S REACH
Before we rush headlong into 2018, let’s take just a moment to pause and reflect on the things we did well in 2017. And when I say “pause and reflect,” what I mean is, “slather ourselves in glory like a gravy-basted Christmas turkey.”
Without further ado, here are the top stories from 2017, minus a few evergreenposts that seem to get thousands of views every year no matter what. (I’m not surprised that so many people are googling “buy legal weed in DC,” but I am a little surprised – not to mention concerned – that so many people are looking for abandoned buildings in DC. I don’t understand it, so I’m just going to blame millennials.) … URBAN SCRAWL’S TOP STORIES OF 2017
